New data shows Ford’s pandemic response falls far short

More action needed to address full ICUs, help hot spots: NDP

QUEEN’S PARK — NDP Deputy Leaders Sara Singh and John Vanthof released the following statement in response to the release of updated COVID-19 data modeling for Ontario:

“Ontarians shouldn’t have to settle for a COVID-19 prevention strategy that teeters between bad outcomes and worst-case scenarios. Doug Ford lifted public health measures too soon, and now we’re in a position where ICUs will be so full for weeks to come that delays to surgeries will be unavoidable. Lockdowns aren’t going to be enough to stop the spread in hot spots if people can’t self-isolate or take paid sick days. Dr. Adalsteinn Brown made clear we need community and culturally specific supports, pop-up testing, paid sick days and income supports, and we urge Doug Ford to make that happen right away. Ford must also immediately cap class sizes, reinforce long-term care homes with staff and infection control experts, and provide direct support for small businesses.”
